Back in Bethnal Green

Back in Bethnal Green

After a year-long hiatus recording my second EP, ‘Ghost Dancing’, I’m back in Hackney teaching singers! Got a brand new studio in Mowlem Street, upgrades all round. Full size upright piano- drum kit, PA, loads of mics, elec guitar amps, loads of percussion, recording equipment- the sessions are more musical than ever. It’s really good to be back- feeling inspiration that I get from working so closely & regularly with you Singers- you ALL inspire me- whether you’re taking your first steps or fine tuning vocals for your latest record- always looking to go beyond, getting out of your comfort zones, making beautiful music. I live for this.

As ever, I’m getting inspired by being brought new sounds, new singers I haven’t heard played in the studio before. Lately I’ve been seduced by Hindi Zahra, been blown away by Beth Hart- and even trying material I was surprised I’d never touched before- The XX, Anthony & The Johnsons. Excited to recently start working with an up-and-coming electronic producer/ artist, gorgeous light male vocals floating over the top. Other highlights have been co-writing songs with one of my singers for a one-woman show to be exhibited in 2018. Working with another Artist translating French songs into English (I’m making the music & recording the vocals), and setting another of my long-time clients free on Garageband, now starting to produce her own Indie tunes- writing her own lyrics- its really exciting to see her fly.

As ever, I’ve been brushing up on my vocal technique- for singers who haven’t seen me for a while, I’ve got loads of new exercises for you to exercise and stretch your voices out on, take you to some new areas you haven’t been before. I’m really excited to hear how you’ve been getting on.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date via this blog. I’ll be posting thoughts, musings, essays, philosophy, poems etc, anything to do with singing, or music, or art, or whatever inspires me coming out of our amazing creative sessions together. I look forward to making music with you soon.
